Community guidelines

How we treat each other here.

Be honest, be respectful and follow through on what you agree to. Describe items and services accurately. Take care of things you borrow. Communicate clearly about timing, payment and expectations. Speak up when something goes wrong. Folk.Share does not screen or guarantee members, so ask the questions that matter to you. Threats, scams, harassment and discrimination are not allowed.

What the checks are, and are not

Every member has confirmed an email address, and every full profile has been read by a person before it went up. That is the whole of it. It is not a background check, a reference, or a guarantee of anything, and an approved profile is not a certificate of competence. If a piece of work or an arrangement matters to you, ask about it the way you would ask anyone.

Higher-trust services

People here offer childcare, pet care, trades, help with vehicles and other work where trust matters. Folk.Share does not verify qualifications or licences, or carry out background checks. Ask the questions that matter to you before agreeing to work together. Claiming a qualification you do not have is a reason for removal.

Not allowed

  • Illegal items or services, weapons or explosives, controlled drugs, alcohol listings
  • Stolen or counterfeit goods, fraudulent listings, scams, deliberately misleading claims
  • Sexual services
  • Threats, harassment, discrimination
  • Regulated services offered unlawfully or without the qualifications the law requires
  • Anything that creates a serious risk to somebody's safety, named here or not

When something goes wrong

Something didn’t feel right? Tell us privately. There is a link on every listing, profile, conversation and arrangement. Threats, harassment, fraud, serious dishonesty, unsafe behaviour, something not returned, significant damage, illegal activity, a serious dispute, or the same bad behaviour again and again: all of these are worth a report. The other person is not told who reported, nothing is posted, and a report is read as an account of what happened rather than as proof. You will hear back.

A worry you raise with the other person in your messages is not a report. Only the private report is.
